Application Procedures


Classified (Non-Teaching) Application Procedure

Applications for classified positions must be completed at the Central Administration Building located at 512 Philip. Even if there are no vacancies listed, interested candidates can come in and complete an application which will be kept on file for one year.

The Norfolk Public Schools employ staff in classified (non-teaching) positions in the following areas:

√ Secretarial/Accounting

√ Paraprofessional (Teacher's Aide)

√ Technical/Computer

√ Food Service/Cafeteria

√ Custodial

√ Maintenance/Bus Driver

All positions require the following qualifications:

√ High school diploma/GED (Note: Paraprofessionals working with students must have at least 48 hours of college credit, an Associate Degree, or a passing score on a district-approved assessment)

√ Skills in interpersonal relations, organization, prioritization, patience, and problem solving

√ Willingness to attend inservice training as required by position

√ Ability to handle distractions/resolve conflicts

√ Effective oral and written communication skills

√ Maintain confidentiality

√ Self-motivation

√ Punctuality

Individual positions may require additional qualifications such as computer skills, first aid/CPR training, Commercial Driver's License (CDL), etc.

Applications for classified positions are taken during regular office hours (8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) in the Personnel Office at the Norfolk Public Schools Central Administration Building located at 512 Philip. Applications will not be mailed, they must be completed on-site.
