Help CenterGlossaryApplication File: For an administrative or teaching/specialist position, a complete application file contains:
Classified Positions: Non-teaching employment opportunities for paraprofessionals (aides), secretarial and accounting positions, technology, food service, and custodian/maintenance/bus driver positions. Credentials: A compilation of recommendations/references applicants request from cooperating teachers, college faculty, etc. This file can be self-managed, or handled (for a fee) by a college Placement Bureau or Career Services Office for distribution to potential employers at your request. Note: Some credential files include college transcripts and they can be used for the interview process, however, these are not considered “official” transcripts. Endorsement: Subject area(s) you are certified to teach as listed on your Nebraska Teaching Certificate. Final Interview: Once your application file is complete, your strengths will be assessed against our district needs, and NPS administrators will determine whether or not to contact you to schedule a final (personal) interview. Online Interview: This is a Required step in the application process. After we have received your completed application, the Norfolk Public Schools requires teaching/specialist and administrative candidates to respond to general interview questions located on a website sponsored by the Gallup Organization. Once your completed application has been received, access information will be sent to you. It takes approximately 45 minutes to respond to this survey, which provides our district with preliminary information on your preparation and compatibility with our district needs. References: Written statements from those who can attest to your character and/or ability to perform the position applied for. Telephone references are NOT encouraged. Substitute - Classified Staff: A classified substitute must have a current application on file and temporarily fills in for a non-teaching position such as a secretary, paraprofessional (aide), etc. Substitutes in these positions are not employees of the district, but provide a valuable service when our staff members are gone due to illness, workshops, etc. Substitute Teacher: Substitute teaching in the Norfolk Public Schools requires a current Nebraska Teaching Certificate. Substitute teachers are not employees of the district, but provide a valuable service when a teacher is gone due to illness, workshops, etc. (See “Substitute Teacher”) Substitute Teacher - Local: A Local Substitute does not need a teaching degree, but must meet specific requirements established by the Nebraska Department of Education for a Local Substitute Nebraska Teaching Certificate (see “Substitute Teacher – Local Substitute Teaching Certificate”). Local substitute teachers are not employees of the district, but provide a valuable service when a teacher is gone due to illness, workshops, etc. Transcript: Record of courses taken and grades received available from the college/university attended. Official transcripts have the colleges/universities original seal. Photocopies are accepted for the application process, but official copies are required if hired by the Norfolk Public School District.
