Our Community:
Surrounded by gently rolling hills, Norfolk is in the heart of the Elkhorn Valley in northeast Nebraska with the Sandhills lying to the west and farmland to the east.
A city of over 24,000, Norfolk is the economic growth center for an area encompassing six counties. The economy is comprised of activity in agriculture, manufacturing, and services including retail and wholesale trade, education, and health care. Norfolk is the major retail trade center for northeast Nebraska, and offers many of the conveniences and amenities of a city with the friendly atmosphere of a small town.
The community is very supportive of the school district’s emphasis on educational excellence. Norfolk Public Schools offers a challenging academic program, vital student services, and a variety of extracurricular activities. The district meets and exceeds the accreditation requirements of the Nebraska State Department of Education and North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools.
Our District:
Our goal is to recruit and retain the best and brightest employees.
The Norfolk School District is committed to a common mission of equipping all students to succeed in a complex changing world.

NPS includes eight elementary schools (grades K-5), one Montessori School (grades K-3), three former Class 1 schools (grades K-6/8), Middle School (grades 6-7), Junior High (grades 8-9), Senior High (grades 10-12), Alternatives for Success (grades 9-12), and the Learning Center and Early Childhood Center (both Special Education).
Quality education begins with a quality staff, and our district is proud of the energy, creativity, and caring displayed by our personnel. We employ over 500 staff members including administrators, teachers/specialists, clerical staff, paraprofessionals (aides), technology/computer, food service, custodians, and maintenance/bus drivers. Hiring procedures and annual evaluations maintain quality standards for personnel selection and continuing employment.
Our school district provides our youth an excellent educational experience. Such an outstanding program is possible only through the involvement and cooperation of parents, volunteers, local business/industry personnel, service and fraternal clubs, and other patrons of our district. We acknowledge and appreciate their contributions.
